Referee Attire

Prior to the tournament, check with local referee authorities for the acceptable referee uniform for the event.  The following describe three uniform variations:

Formal

The formal referee uniform for both men and women consists of:

  • Pants: Properly fitting gray slacks (pants, trousers), medium/dark gray in color (charcoal gray).
  • Shirt: White short sleeve dress shirt. The short sleeves are for refereeing in warm weather when the jacket is allowed to be taken off.
  • Tie: Solid black tie. The tip of the tie should touch the top edge of the belt and not go below the bottom edge of the belt. Exceptions may be allowed by local referee authorities.
  • Solid black socks.
  • Jacket: A properly fitting black jacket (blazer). The two- button variety is preferred over the three- button. The double-breasted jacket should not be worn.  Right side chest pocket is preferred for the badge holder.  When refereeing, the jacket must be buttoned (top button). When judging at the table, the jacket need not be buttoned if sitting behind a table. However, if the judges are sitting at the edge of the mat with no table in front of them then they should have their jacket buttoned.
Informal

The informal referee uniform for both men and women consists of:

  • Pants: Check with local referee authorities for the color of pants.
  • Shirt: Polo shirt. Check with local referee authorities for the color of polo shirt.  The polo shirt should be “tucked” into the belt and pants.
  • Solid black socks.
Dojo Scrimmage
