The USA’s World Judo Team’s quest for individual championships medals at the 2015 World Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan came to an abrupt end today. The final four individual competitors, Ajax Tadehara, Andrew Jacobs, Nina Cutro-Kelly, and Akbarzhan Iminov, all lost their first matches of the day, ending their chances to stand on the podium of the premier judo competition of the year.
The US competitors were frustrated at every turn, with Marti Malloy’s fifth place being the only bright spot in an otherwise disappointing week of intense individual competition.
The tournament will conclude on Sunday with the team competition, a perennial crowd favorite.
