Unfortunately, the podium picture was not to be. France’s Autonme Pavia, who, along with our own Marti Malloy, won Bronze at the 2012 Olympics in London, defeated Malloy in the Bronze medal match during Golden Score (overtime) by a shido penalty today at the World Championships, with Malloy having to settle for fifth place. Pavia, the 2014 World Bronze Medalist and 2013 European Champion, also defeated US team member Hana Carmichael in the preliminary rounds.
Tomorrow, Travis Stevens (see more about Travis) will represent the USA in the -81 kg division, while Hannah Martin (see more about Hannah) and Leilani Akiyama (see more about Leilani) will be our -63 kg representatives.
Since Astana is ten hours ahead of the east coast, it is difficult to watch the preliminaries, which start at 1AM eastern. But the finals block starts at 7AM eastern, so it is easier for us in the US to watch the live repechage, semifinals, Bronze, and Gold medal matches.
