Mrs. Sumiko Imamura, wife of Mr. Haruo Imamura, died Sunday, August 23, 2009, when the SUV she was riding in was hit by a big rig with no breaks on northbound I-5. Imamura was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.

Mrs. Imamura’s funeral service will be Saturday, August 29th at 10:00 AM at the Fresno Buddhist Church Annex at 1340 Kern Street, Fresno, CA 93706.

Rememberances can be made in Mrs. Imamura’s Memory to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation or Fresno Judo Club and sent to 602 W. Princeton Ave. Fresno CA 93705.  Funeral arrangements are through Lisle Funeral Home in Fresno.

Mrs. Imamura was in the rear seat of the SUV with her seat belt on. She always makes her grandkids put on their seat belts. She traded places with one passenger so he could sit closer to the "guys" and told him to put on his seat belt. He normally would not wear a seat belt but told her, for her, he would wear it. There is speculation that the seat back broke as it is a flip up seat and did not restrain her.
