I had the privilege of traveling with 15 judokas from across the United States to Japan to participate in the Sanix Judo Camp, and compete in Sanix Judo Tournament 2016. The opportunity to accompany these students to this competition was a very memorable experience. I accompanied 2 judokas, Narek Manucharyan, and Isaiah Thor from Fresno Judo Club, and met the rest of them in Japan. All 15 judokas represented Team USA.

As the 83-year-old sensei Haruo Imamura, the patriarch of Fresno Judo, battles cancer, his family is hoping for one more milestone: Journeying to Tokyo in 2020 to watch their youngest grand daughter Miranda Imamura, compete in the Olympics.

Paris, February 12 – The United States judo team ran into a wall today, and was unable to match the success of their lighter weight teammates from the day before at the Paris Grand Slam judo championships.

Delgado Defeats 2012 Olympic Champion, Places Fifth at Paris Grand Slam

Paris, February 11, 2017. Angelica Delgado, reigning US National Champion, 2016 Olympic team member, and multiple-time US World Team member at 52 kg, scored big today in Paris with a fifth place finish in one of the most competitive tournaments in the world.

This past December I had the good fortune to attend the SANIX International Judo Tournament as a coach for the second year in a row. If you have not traveled internationally as an athlete or a coach it is hard to imagine the scope of a trip like this. For many of the participants, this was their first time outside of the US. Going half way around the world, far from home and family, they were surrounded by a different language, new customs, and unfamiliar food from the moment they arrived.
