Dear Yamaguchi Sensei

Thank you again for hosting the summer abroad program. I appreciate all the hard work that went into the program. Our students thoroughly enjoy the trip and learned a lot about judo and life. You have a premier program and I congratulate you on the success this year.

We will have the students respond with a report to you and USJF on their impressions of the program.

Remembering Sensei Tsuyoshi Miyazaki (1931-2016)

Sensei Tsuyoshi Miyazaki passed away in the evening of Friday the July 29, 2016. He was 85 years old and died of heart failure at Howard University hospital with Janet, his beloved wife of 57 years, nearby.

Sensei Tsuyoshi Miyazaki passed away a few days ago. He had been the captain of the Keio University Judo team, and a three-time winner of the Outstanding Athlete of the All Japan Championships.

Special Guest, Maria Celia Laborde, at the “Fight Like A Girl” Camp

Special Guest, Maria Celia Laborde and added session to the “Fight Like A Girl” Camp Sunday August 7, 2016 from 2pm to 5pm at Southside. 8534 Portage Rd. Portage, MI.

We are holding an extra afternoon session of the “Fight Like A Girl Camp” open to both male and female Judoka from 2 pm to 5 pm. The cost of this session is $20 with extra donations welcome to support her relocation to the USA.

We hope you can join us for this outstanding opportunity work with a World Class Cuban player.

Marti Malloy and the Long Road to her High Seeding for Rio

At the 2016 US National Championships in Dallas in early April the USJF Roving Reporter spoke with the three women who are representing the US Olympic Team in Rio in August. The first interview was with Angelica Delgado, and the second interview in this series of three was with Marti Malloy.

New USA Judo Executive Director announced

USA Judo has announced the appointment of Mr. Keith Bryant. Bryant is well-known in Olympic circles, as he has been involved with all aspects of the US Olympic Committee. USA Judo announced this change as athletes are readying for their trips to Brazil to compete in the Games, commending the work of Jose Rodriguez and wishing the new Executive Director well as he takes up his new role on August 15.
